I started doing database programming with the TAS Professional product developed by Phil Mickelson back in the 80's and I still have clients using this today.

These are mainly heavily customised accounts / stock control applications.

Other TAS based clients included The Royal Air Force, the National Health Service and American Express (it was cheaper and quicker for them to use a PC system to analyse mainframe data than to wait for their IT department to do anything).

These days I use the Alpha 5 software Windows-based programming environment.

I started using Alpha 5 when one of my TAS clients wanted to move an existing Alpha 4 application to the Windows environment.

Since then Alpha Software have extended their product into probably the most productive development system available and have made it into a very efficient web application generator, with full security inbuilt.
It is currently being further extended into the GIS and mobile areas with unique offline capabilities - the only real constraint is imagination.
